Lake Kerkini
Today’s lake was formed in 1932 by damming the Strymonas. It is a Ramsar wetland of international importance and part of a living, seasonal ecosystem.

A station and the waters of Belles
An official Ministry of Macedonia–Thrace route describes Vyroneia’s former station as a café–restaurant. In Neo Petritsi, the Greek Gastronomy Guide places Oasi in Koilada, beside a stream and plane trees at the foot of Mount Belles.
Strymonas, Aetovouni and walking
The Region of Central Macedonia documents the Strymonas river’s role in the lake. The old Neo Petritsi–Aetovouni road forms part of the E6 route, while Belles Historic Trail publishes current local routes. For organised hiking, check dates and terms directly with the provider.

1913 and fortified memory
Begin with the sourced history of the station. For an organised history visit, Metaxas Line Tour presents the Belles WWII Memorial Center in Neo Petritsi and customised guided tours; confirm the programme and access.
Agistro baths — a regional option
Agistro’s thermal baths are outside the directory’s nearby zone. The regional authority documents the Byzantine bath and newer facilities; check current operation and booking directly.
Akritochori and short stays
The Hellenic Chamber of Hotels lists Villa Belles in Akritochori. An Airbnb search for Vyroneia displayed the names Aura Kerkini 1 and SouzisCasa on 20 Sep 2026; availability, price and reviews were not verified. Use only current booking pages.

Why “Refen” is not listed
The only recent trace found referred to event catering, not enough primary evidence for a current venue, precise address or stable public contact details. It is not presented as an operating restaurant until verified.
